Installing the 'Business' or 'Professional' versions of 'Pages Generator'
 ________________________________________________________________________

1. Installation
---------------
Place the supplied diskette, labelled 'Mobile Pages' into your PC's
  disk drive.

  Type: a:\install
.... to install the contents of the disk on your C: drive, in the
     directory mobpages.

  OR Type: a:\install <device>
.... to install the contents onto a different drive. So, typing:
        a:\install d:
.... will install the contents onto drive D:. (Note, you should check
the drive exists and can be written to!)

2. Setting up your PC
---------------------
With the software successfully installed, you should make sure that your
PC is setup correctly to run the Psion Emulator and to process Mobile
Pages files. You MUST do the following 2 things :

   a. Ensure that the LASTDRIVE setting in \config.sys is set to
the letter 'M', or to a letter AFTER 'M', in the alphabet.

You should now be able to enter the Psion Emulator. You MUST exit
Windows in order to run the Psion Emulator. It will NOT run from a DOS
      window, launched from Windows!

   b. Add \mobpages\pc to your PATH in \autoexec.bat. This will ensure that
the commands used in the supplied scripts can be found.

Once you have completed the above, you should REBOOT your PC, for the
  changes to take effect.

3. Entering the Psion Emulator
------------------------------
In order to enter the Psion Emulator, type \psion from DOS. Note that
you can force 'Full screen mode' by typing '\psion Full' or return to
the default by typing '\psion Small'.

You should always be in full screen mode when using Pages Generator.

You must remember that the Psion Emulator is a software version of the
Psion Series 3a. The latter is designed with special keys. The Psion
Emulator uses the PC's function keys to allow access to the same features.

The following summarises the most commonly used function keys :

  F1 - System
  F2 - Data application
  F3 - Word application
  F4 - Agenda application
  F5 - Time application
  F6 - World application
  F7 - Calc application
  F8 - Sheet application
  F9 - Menu application
  F10 - Help key
  F12 - 'Diamond' (execute) key
  Alt - Psion key

Of the above, F1, F9, F10 and F12 are the most commonly used when working
  with Mobile Pages.

To EXIT the emulator, hold down the ALT, CONTROL & SHIFT keys together,
and press Z. Note that the 'Fatal application error 00' message is
NORMAL and does NOT indicate an error condition!

4. What files go where?
-----------------------
This section does get a little technical. It is not necessary to
understand the information contained in it. However, it will be of
  interest to some readers.

A Psion Series 3a has 3 available devices, referred to as 'M' (internal
memory), 'A' and 'B'. Optional storage devices can be inserted into slots
'A' and 'B' to provide additional storage space for files.

The Psion Emulator uses 3 subdirectories in the directory \mobpages\psion,
called dev-m, dev-a and dev-b, to emulate these devices. So, if you place
a file in the directory \mobpages\psion\dev-m, the Psion Emulator will
see the file in its 'M' device.

Mobile Pages software and the supplied Mobile Pages databases are loaded
in the \app and \app\pages directories of (in this case) device 'M', as
seen by the Psion Emulator. They physically exist in the directories
  \mobpages\psion\dev-m\app and \mobpages\psion\dev-m\app\pages.

Note that the Psion Emulator is provided by Psion plc, under their
Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions can be found in the
file 'readme.s3a', in the \mobpages\pc directory.

5. Creating Mobile Pages databases
----------------------------------
You will read on the 'Mobile Pages Challenge' diskette, how you create
1 or 2 files in order to generate a Mobile Pages database.

These files should be created in \app\pages on any Psion device, which
means that, due to the file structure of the Psion emulator, (see previous
section), you should place them in the directory :
        \mobpages\psion\dev-m\app\pages (recommended)
    or \mobpages\psion\dev-a\app\pages
    or \mobpages\psion\dev-b\app\pages

6. Using Mobile Pages with the Psion 3a Emulator
------------------------------------------------
Enter the Psion Emulator, as discussed in section 3, above.

Every time you enter the Emulator, you will need to 'install' the
Mobile Pages applications. This is a function of the Emulator and
is beyond Mobile Software's control. Having said that, once you've
done it a few times, it takes only a couple of seconds.

Press the ALT key and the 'i' key together. Select PAGES.opa and
press enter. Repeat the process, selecting PAGESgen.opa and PAGESmgr.opa.

These 3 applications are summarised below :

Pagesgen.opa - Pages Generator - Create Mobile Pages databases
Pages.opa - Pages Viewer - Search and view Mobile Pages databases
Pagesmgr.opa - Pages Manager - Control access to Mobile Pages databases

7. Further information
----------------------
All Mobile Pages software modules include comprehensive on-line help.
Press the 'Help' key if you are running the software on the Psion, or
press the F10 function key within the Emualator, to access this help.
Additional information can also be found at Mobile Software's Web site
and on the 'Mobile Pages Challenge' diskette.
